Cancer Campaign
VMC is committed to winning the fight against cancer in Silicon Valley. Thanks to the support of the Sobrato Family Foundation, the new Sobrato Cancer Center will open on the VMC campus in 2008. Help us ensure that this center opens with the latest and greatest in cancer fighting technology.

PET/CT Scanner
When it comes to cancer, nothing is as important as early detection. That is why a PET/CT Scanner is central to the cancer campaign. Without it, patients could go months before the nature of their disease is fully understood. "Seeing" the location of metabolically active cancer by PET/CT imaging is the international standard of care. VMC is one of the few hospitals in the Bay Area that currently does not have its own unit. PET/CT scanning gives a precise location of the primary cancer and unexpected metastasis and saves costs by reducing the number of procedures required for a diagnosis.
Fighting Breast Cancer
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center strives to provide the most comprehensive breast health services to women in Silicon Valley. The medical center is initiating two exciting programs to expand our impact, with special consideration of the unique challenges facing low-income women. The first is the conversion from analog to digital mammography at the main hospital and up to five clinic sites throughout the county. Digital mammography offers many advantages to our specific patient population, including shorter wait times for appointments, more accurate readings for certain women, and an increased number of patients screened each year. The hospital will also launch a Breast Health Patient Navigator Program to assist women who may have breast cancer to navigate through our large and complex health care system.
